The IJA understands that for jockeys it is essential for the right balance to maintain health, whilst keeping pace with a hectic lifestyle and to reduce the risks of a sport that involves making weight on a regular basis.
Members of the IJA have free access to a nutrition team led by Gillian O’Loughlin.
Race Day Catering
There has been a significant amount of background work done regarding the weigh room catering. The below Guidelines developed by Dietician Gillian O’Loughlin, UCD MSc Students Esme Ward and Ruth Drennan and IHRB Senior Medical Officer, Dr. Jennifer Pugh, have been put together following much discussion and research with the dietary team and the racecourses.
You will already have seen improvement at several tracks and it is very much hoped that with Dr. Pugh’s input these improvements will continue to be rolled out at all racecourses.
