The IJA offers Career Ending Insurance (CEI) which is available exclusively and automatically for all members of the Association. This policy offers a lump sum payout to you of between €30,000.00 to €120,000.00 in the event of you sustaining an injury which ends your career as a professional jockey.

This policy is available exclusively to IJA members and was set up through the Committee of the IJA over four years ago and is a vitally important health policy. As the scheme is sponsored by Comer Group International, all IJA members covered under the policy are entitled to sponsored breeches, jackets and other Comer Group International branded merchandise.

The cost of joining the IJA is €4.42 per ride which is automatically deducted through HRI plus one annual riding fee.

Career Ending Insurance, which is now in its fifth year, offers members and their families’ greater financial security if they are forced to retire through injury. Comer Group International sponsorship was launched at the Galway festival in July and we are delighted that they have agreed a partnership deal for the next three years.

Andrew Coonan, Irish Jockeys Association Secretary, says: “The importance of this insurance scheme cannot be emphasised enough.  During the course of the last three years in which we have had this cover, we have seen a number of riders whose careers have been cut short through injury.  Fortunately, the insurance we now have in place provided them with some vital finance while trying to re-establish new careers.  Without the invaluable support of Comer Group International, it might not have been possible to continue with this scheme.  We are delighted that such an internationally successful company has agreed to link up with our jockeys and thank Luke and Brian Comer for their generous support”.
